So you've gone natural.
Mother Earth thanks you! Making the switch is an important decision for our own personal health, as well as the health of our planet. We commend you!
There are a few things you may want to know about storing natural products when getting started. Since they are a bit more, err.... natural, they'll be a little more sensitive to our environment. Natural products are susceptible to air, heat, and mold. However, you can extend the shelf life of your newfound favorite products by following these simple guidelines:
1. Avoid exposure to extreme heat and cold fluctuations. Natural products like stability - give them what they want! We know that sometimes this isn't always possible; for example, when traveling, but as long as they're stored at a stable temperature, a few fluctuations here and there are usually not a problem.
2. Limit exposure to light and air. Keep your products tightly sealed when not in use, and store at room temperature in a dark closet or drawer.
3. Keep moisture to a minimum. It may be tempting to take those natural products into the shower, but we recommend avoiding this. Moisture disrupts the natural formulation and can encourage breakdown of your products and the introduction of molds and fungi.
4. When in doubt, throw it out! If your natural products don't smell right, look right, or feel right, don't risk it! Throw them out and replace them. The nice thing about natural products is you'll usually know right away if they've spoiled. Unlike conventional products, your naturals will show signs of mold growth or have an off-smell.
Using natural products can be a little intimidating at first, but the benefits are well worth taking the extra steps to ensure a long shelf-life and the best quality products for your face and body.
Go on then, LOVE YOUR FACE and store your hippie goods with confidence!
